Interior and Exterior Painting
Inside and outside, brush and roller work that starts with prep. We fix the bad wood and the bad drywall first, because paint over a soft board is money you spend twice.
A house paint job is mostly preparation. Colour goes on in a day or two, but what decides whether it still looks good in five years happens before the first coat: scraping, sanding, filling, replacing wood too far gone to hold paint, and priming bare spots. All Types Remodeling and Repair has painted Gulf Coast homes out of Ocean Springs since 2011.
What does exterior painting include?
Washing the walls so the paint has something clean to grip. Scraping and sanding loose and flaking coating back to a sound edge. Filling and caulking open joints. Replacing trim that is too soft to hold paint. Priming every bare patch. Then two finish coats on the body, with the trim, soffit, fascia, doors and shutters cut in by hand.
Bare wood always gets primed, not just topcoated. Primer is what bonds to the wood and gives the finish coat something to sit on. Skipping it is the single most common reason a repaint peels in sheets a couple of years later.
Why does exterior paint fail so fast on the coast?
Long hot spells and heavy rain, working in turns. Sun bakes the binder out of the coating on the walls that face it, so the south and west sides chalk and dull while the shaded sides still look almost new. Then the rain finds the joints that the heat opened up.
That is why we caulk and prime rather than just recoat, and why a repaint here is usually staged by elevation. The sunny sides need more work than the shaded ones, and pretending otherwise makes for an uneven job and an uneven price.
Interior painting, room by room
Inside, the prep is different but just as important. Walls get washed where they are greasy or smoke stained, nail pops and cracks get filled and floated, and trim gets sanded so the new coat lays flat instead of ridging over old drips.
We mask floors and cover furniture, cut the edges in by hand, and roll the fields. Ceilings, walls and trim are three different sheens and three different sequences, and doing them in the right order is what keeps the lines crisp. Bathrooms and kitchens get a coating built for moisture and washing, because a flat wall paint in a shower room will not last here.
Painting over repaired wood and drywall
Most of our painting work follows a repair. A fascia run gets replaced, a ceiling gets patched, a bathroom gets remodelled, and the paint is how it all gets tied back together. Doing both halves ourselves means the new wood is sealed on every face before it is installed and the drywall patch is primed properly rather than being buried under a topcoat.
It also means one schedule and one price instead of two contractors pointing at each other. If we find soft wood or a live leak while we are prepping, we stop and show you rather than painting over it.
Painting usually follows rotten wood repair outside and sheetrock repair inside. The whole list of what we do is on our home repair and remodeling page, and every town we reach is on the areas we serve page.

Judge a paint job by the prep, not by the colour on the day it finishes. Ask what got scraped, what got primed, what wood got replaced, and how many coats went on.

Cost of interior and exterior painting in Ocean Springs
What moves the price:
- Square footage and the number of stories, since a two story elevation needs staging or long ladders
- How much scraping, sanding, filling and caulking the existing surface needs before a coat goes on
- How much trim, soffit and fascia has to be replaced or primed before it can hold paint
- Interior versus exterior, and how many rooms, ceilings and trim runs are in the scope
- The number of coats and whether a colour change means an extra coat for full coverage
Every job is different, so we give you an exact price up front, and you approve it before any work starts.

FAQ
Interior and Exterior Painting, common questions
Where can I find interior and exterior painting near me in Ocean Springs?
All Types Remodeling and Repair is based in Ocean Springs and has painted Gulf Coast homes since 2011. We do full exterior repaints, interior rooms, ceilings, trim, doors and shutters across Jackson and Harrison counties. Call (228) 355-8497 and we will walk the house with you and give you a free estimate.
Does it cost more to paint the outside of a house than the inside?
Usually yes, for the same square footage. Outside work needs washing, scraping, caulking, ladders or staging, and it stops for rain. Inside work is faster to prep but slower to protect, because floors and furniture have to be covered and rooms have to stay usable. We price them separately so you can see what drives each one.
How often should a house on the Mississippi coast be repainted?
Sooner than inland, and not evenly on all sides. The walls that take direct sun will chalk and dull years before the shaded elevations do. Rather than a fixed number, we look at the surface: chalky coating, open caulk joints, bare spots and peeling edges mean it is time, and one elevation may need it first.
Do you prime bare wood before painting?
Always. Primer is what actually bonds to raw wood and gives the finish coat something to hold on to. Topcoat straight onto bare wood looks fine for a season and then peels off in sheets. Every bare spot we scrape down to and every new board we install gets primed before any colour goes on.
Can you fix the rotten trim before you paint it?
Yes, and we prefer to. Paint will not hold on wood that has gone soft, so painting over it is money spent twice. We probe the trim during prep, cut out what is rotten, fit and seal new wood, then prime and paint the whole run so the repair and the finish are one job with one price.
Are you a local painting crew or a franchise?
Local. All Types Remodeling and Repair is locally owned and operated out of Ocean Springs and has worked on this coast since 2011. You are not calling a call centre or a storm chasing outfit passing through. Owner Ken Carr looks at the house himself and the same business is here after the job is done.
