What does a kitchen or bathroom remodel cover?
It ranges. At the light end it is cabinets, counters, a new sink and taps, fresh board where the old ones were fixed, tile and paint. In the middle it is all of that plus new flooring, new lighting positions and a reworked vanity or island. At the heavy end a wall moves, a layout changes, and the room gets rebuilt from the framing out.
We do all three sizes, and the first thing we do is work out which one you are actually asking for. Plenty of people describe a light refresh and want a layout change, or the reverse. Settling that at the estimate is what stops the scope from drifting later.
What happens first in a remodel?
The walk through and the written scope. We measure, look at what is behind the finishes where we can, and write down exactly what is included and what is not. That document is what you are agreeing to, and it is what we build to.
Then demolition, and demolition is where the surprises live. In older coastal homes we regularly open a bathroom wall and find a bottom plate that has been damp for years, or a floor that has soft spots around the toilet flange. We stop, show you, and price the fix before we carry on. Nobody likes that call, but finding out later is worse.

Bathrooms fail at the wet edges. The joint where a tub or shower meets the wall, the base of the toilet, and the run of wall behind the vanity. Once water has been getting past a tired seal for a few years, the board behind the tile is soft and the framing may be too.
So a bathroom remodel here is a moisture job before it is a finish job. We look at what is behind the surround, use board rated for wet areas where it belongs, set the substrate flat so the tile sits without lipping, and seal the transitions properly. Doing the pretty part over a wet substrate is a remodel that fails from the inside.

Kitchens are about flatness and sequence. Cabinets have to hang on solid framing and sit dead level, or the counter will not land right and the doors will never line up. Old coastal walls are rarely plumb, so scribing and shimming are most of the skill.

Is a bathroom remodel cheaper than a kitchen remodel?
Usually, because a bathroom is a smaller room with fewer cabinets and less counter. But a small bathroom can still cost more than a light kitchen refresh when there is hidden water damage behind the surround or a soft subfloor. Size sets the starting point, and what is behind the tile decides the rest.
How long does a bathroom remodel take?
A straightforward bathroom is usually a couple of weeks of working days once materials are on site, longer if the layout changes or a permit is involved. Delays almost always come from two things: something unexpected found at demolition, and waiting on a special order item. We build both into the schedule we give you.
Can I keep using the room while you work?
Partly. In a kitchen we can often stage the work so you keep a sink and a run of counter for most of it, though there will be days without either. A single bathroom is harder, because once the tub or toilet comes out that room is out of use until the new one is set.
Do I need a permit to remodel a bathroom in Mississippi?
It depends on your town and on what you are changing. Cosmetic work usually does not need one. Moving walls, changing plumbing or electrical positions usually does, and several towns on this coast only issue those permits to a licensed contractor.
